GUYANA - The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs recently handed over a tractor/trailer valued $8.2 million to Yakarinta, Region Nine to help boost agricultural production.
According to the Government Information Agency (GINA) the machines were handed over to Toshao Matthew Alexander at a brief ceremony which was also attended by Village Councillor Callistos Buckley.
Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai urged the village council to ensure that the machines are well maintained so that they can be of maximum benefit to the three communities that are expected to benefit from their use.
In response Alexander and Buckley explained that the tractor valued $6.7 million, will be used to carry out a number of functions to aid in the village’s development. Alexander then thanked the government for providing the vehicle.
